TWO pre-season matches are expected to draw big Stamford crowds over the coming days.
Blackstones will host the Daniels in the annual Stamford derby tomorrow, which may be a friendly but carries town honours into the forthcoming season. Kick off at Lincoln Road is at 3pm.
Then on Tuesday evening, Stamford will face a Rotherham United XI, managed by former Stamford chief, Steve Evans, at Kettering Road.
Stamford boss Graham Drury said: “This will be a brilliant test.
“Steve will come to give us a game and I am sure we can come away with a result.”
The Daniels boss is pleased with the way his squad is coming together ahead of their opening league fixture, at Northwich Voctoria, on August 18
Stamford will unveil a new shirt at the Rotherham game when they will become the first English football team to display their Twitter username – @StamfordAFC1896 – on their playing shirts.
Chris Rivett, who was appointed a director at Kettering Road this week, said: “As the relationship between technology and sport evolves I expect this will become a common practice; sports clubs, and perhaps more significantly players and brands, will look to interact with supporters in this manner.
“Just down the road from us, Kettering Town are widely recognised as being the first team in Britain to have a shirt sponsor, if the opportunity is adopted on a global scale, it will be nice to see Stamford acknowledged as one of the pioneers of this approach.”
Kick off on Tuesday is at 7.45pm.
