RUTLAND Veterans continued their unbeaten run in the Umbro National Veterans’ competition with two excellent victories in February.
In the over 50s section they beat Essex side Herongate 4-0 with goals from Mark Bryan, Barry Suggett, Brian Cooper and an own goal.
Rutland finished top of their group, scoring 13 goals, conceding only one.
In the over 45s group, the performances have been equally impressive with a first rate 4-2 victory over their old rivals Kirby Muxloe, their first win against the Leicester side in ten years.
Goals from Barry Suggett – a penalty – Brian Cooper, Mark Toms and a spectacular effort from Darren Munton gave the Veterans a comprehensive victory.
They move into the latter stages of the competition with every confidence that they can progress further.
The club’s thanks go to Cottesmore Football Club for the use of their ground, the Odd House for after match hospitality and match officials Dave Walker, Pete Chappell, Tom Toland and Adam Brierly-Lewis.
