Wakes boss hails ‘fantastic’ winning goal

Bourne Town moved up to eighth in the table with a 2-1 victory against Raunds Town at the Abbey Lawn on Saturday.

Mike Feely and Andy Moss scored for Bourne to complete the double against their visitors and extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

Feely put the Wakes in front midway though the first half, running through to fire low past the Raunds keeper, but the visitors levelled through Alex Wills shortly before the interval when the home side failed to cope with a long throw deep inside their half.

In the second half, Bourne created several chances and Moss rounded off an excellent move 11 minutes from time to secure the win. Lee Wood played an inch-30 yard pass to Tom Cardall whose pass was crisply volleyed home by Moss.

Bourne boss Darren Munton said: “We played very well in the second half and should have won comfortably.

“The winning goal was a fantastic piece of play. Lee’s vision and passing was excellent and it was a great final touch from Moss.

“Teams like Raunds, where they are in the table, are the ones we want to beat.

“We are in a good position - and we have played more games than the others - but if we can get a few more wins, top six could be possible.”

Bourne’s next match is away at Potton United on Saturday. A week later, Bourne hosts title-chasing AFC Rushden and Diamonds at the Abbey Lawn.

Bourne (v Raunds): Aaron Bellairs, Kev Elgar, Tom Cardall, Jimmy McDonnell, Aaron Jesson, Lee Wood, Andy Moss, Craig Rook (Danny Pick), Michael Feely, Juhnny Currall (James Allen), Tom Caldicott (Dan Bratcher).
