The wakes are starting to gel with just one more pre-season match before their league campaign kicks off at home to Thrapston next week.
Bourne drew 2-2 with a strong Holwell Sports side on Tuesday evening and manager Darren Munton is pleased with how his squad is starting to shape up.
Richard Nelson put Bourne ahead and although the Leicestershire side scored twice, Bourne showed good spirit, fighting back with a late leveller from substitute George Holliday.
The draw comes on the back of a disappointing 3-0 loss at home to Whittlesey on Saturday and the Bourne boss said: “It was a good response from the lads.
“Pre-season games can be hard to judge.
“We have several players missing and you try different formations - sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.”
Boosted by several recent signing, The Wakes boss added: “We have players competing for places which is better than for a few years.
“We still have a way to go but the lads have settled well.
“It’s great that Jonny Currall has decided to stay but we probably still need another striker.”
Former Blackstones and Rutland Rangers winger Robbie Pearce is among the recent arrivals with Marcus Baines also expected to stay with Munton’s squad after playing in midweek.
Pearce was among the goalscorers when Bourne beat Crowland 3-0 last week, along with Holliday and another summer recruit Alex Brockbank.
Bourne’s final warm-up match is at United Counties League Premier Division side Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday evening.
League fixtures begin with the visit of Thrapston Town to the Abbey Lawn on August 10.
