It has been a fantastic week for Blackstones FC. After losing four of their first five UCL Division One games this season the Stamford club have made a remarkable turn around in the last week, winning twice to climb up to eighth in the table.

On Saturday, Stones beat Northampton ON Chenecks 1-0 at home before battering Corby side Stewarts & Lloyds 5-1 on the road on Tuesday night.

Under the lights on Tuesday, a powerful second half display from Stones condemned S&L to another defeat.

Jack Bergin gave the Foundrymen the lead after six minutes, but Carter Cotterill equalised for Blackstones in the 32nd minute. The visitors took a 48th minute lead through Adam Scotcher and eased clear in the closing stages of the game.

Sam Strange extended Blackstones’ advantage after 75 minutes and a brace from Alex Lyon after 80 and 85 minutes wrapped up a first away success of the season for Stones.

Stones had returned to winning ways with a battling and hard-fought success
on Saturday.

Stones’ goalkeeper Tom Clayton returned after recovering from injury and there were debuts for new signings, defenders Dominic Poli (Yaxley) and Carter Cotterill (Grantham).

The winning goal came six minutes before half time, Scotcher poking the ball home after it had dropped to him following a corner.

In truth it could have been four all but for the efforts of both teams’ defences and commitment.

Post-match, Stones’ manager Nick Andersen said: “We need to take every game as it comes. We are fairly inexperienced still with three 17-year-olds in the back four. It was a fairly even game and both sides had good chances.

“Tom made some great saves especially two in the first half. We were holding on a bit at the end. They struck a post.”

Positions still exist on the Blackstones FC team management for a physio/sports therapist for the season and a Reserve team manager.
