Former Greetham captain takes on key regional role

Neil Harris at Greetham Valley

Neil Harris at Greetham Valley

The Midlands Golf Union has announced that former Greetham Valley Captain Neil Harris will take on the role of MGU secretary.

Neil’s new role will include responsibility for all MGU championships, competitions and team matches as well as the administration of entries and results of amateur competitions from juniors to seniors throughout the Midlands.

Part of Neil’s job will be to liaise with the 10 county associations that make up the Midlands union which has been in existence since 1984 but in different forms dates back to 1895.

Neil plans to continue to help Greetham Secretary Dennis Millington throughout the year and will continue to organise the club’s Winter Order of Merit series.

Competitors in week seven of the series had to contend with icy greens with this week. As a consequence, the winning score was a little lower than normal.

Keith Heppenstall, playing his final game of the year before a four week stint as Santa Claus in Harrods, was the seventh first time winner of the 2012-13 series with a score of 39 points.

Fred Aspin was second with 35 and Ian Cunningham took third with 34.

Dave Copley still leads overall with 107 points.

George Brand, who came fourth this week, moves up to second with 88, and Ted Burke moved into the third slot on 82.
