Greetham Valley’s Winter Order of Merit now has four different winners in the opening weeks of what promises to be an exciting competition.
Dave Copley, who was in second overall after two fourth-place finishes won the fourth round to storm into first place on the leader board.
Playing on the Lakes course, Dave who had three birdies and 14 pars, shot an eagle on the par five 15th for an outstanding 48 points, six ahead of his nearest rival. His handicap was cut by two points.
Peter De Kremer and Steff Dutton would have thought that they were in with a good shout for top spot with scores of 42 but it was only good enough for second and third on the day.
Dave maintains his over all lead after round five was played on the Valley course in perfect golfing conditions.
He has a total of 107, 30 ahead of Steve Anderson in second. Steff Dutton is just three behind in third place.
Forty players entered the second round with 42 points good enough to win this time round, with Bob Beverley taking first place and shooting up the leader board from 28th to joint sixth. He was also docked two shots.
Carl Causbrook took second place on countback with 40, while Ian Copley, who had lucked out on countback, was third.
George Brand had a fantastic hole-in-one on the par three 13th in this week’s Order of Merit.
His ace came just days after winning the winter medal with a fantastic net score of 64.
George, off 16, won division two, the lowest gross for the division and the overall medal. He dropped just four shots in a fabulous front nine on the Lakes course and only two in the next seven holes before an out-of-bounds ball on the par four 17th led to a double bogie.
Thirteen-handicapper Steve Bennoson won division one with a net 67.
David Wallace won division one of the seniors medal with a net 65. Bob King took the honours in division two with a net 67.
The Royal British Legion poppy fund was the charity of the day, and David and Bob were presented with Poppy memorial medals.
