LEWIS Moody and Tom Croft hope to be the latest in a line of former Oakham School pupils to represent England in recent weeks.
Both are in the England squad that has flown to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup, although England captain Moody may miss the Rugby World Cup through injury. He has already been ruled out of Saturday’s game against Argentina.
Should both play they will hope to match the success of former Oakham Schoolboy Stuart Broad who was named man-of-the series against India recently and England hockey star Crista Cullen.
Cullen was on fine form, scoring for England in the Women’s European Hockey Championships where team won the bronze medal.
Though not at international level, cricketer Matt Boyce took four vital catches to help Leicestershire to victory in the final of the national Twenty20 competition.
Oakham School headmaster Nigel Lashbrook said: “All of us at Oakham are incredibly proud of the achievements of our sporting Old Oakhamians who are incredible ambassadors for their sport and indeed their old school.
“They are certainly an inspiration to the current generation of Oakhamians and those to come.”
