Teams to take on the strugglers

Rutland Hockey Club men’s team will hope to bounce back from last weekend’s heavy defeat when they face bottom-of-the-table Cambridge Nomads 2nd XI on Saturday.

Rutland, who are fourth in the table, were beaten 8-1 as Cambridge South inflicted only Rutland’s second loss of the season.

The Ladies’ 1st XI, who top the Cambridgeshire Ladies League with five wins from six, also face a side struggling for points on Saturday, when they take on Huntingdon at Uppingham School.

Rutland Ladies 2nd XI, who lost to Ely Ladies 4-1 on Saturday, will host their division leaders Newmarket this weekend.

Despite Rutland having more possession on Saturday, they couldn’t convert their chances and Ely opened the scoring.

In the second half, Rutland scored a goal back with Aisling MacDonald pushing the ball past the keeper on her debut.
