BURGHLEY Park U9s travelled to Stamford Town on Sunday full of confidence after two successive victories.
The game started with Burghley batting and Henry Brewster and David Turner opening. Both boys played good shots and were always on the look out for quick singles.
Tom O’Donavan and Zak Ellis were next to the crease and communicated excellently during their innings to put the Stamford fielders under pressure.
Archie Dickie Meadows and Patrick Delaney then put on a great partnership of 21 without losing wickets with man of the match Delaney hitting four boundaries. The Burghley team finished on 163.
After the break the Stamford team played some good shots and ran well between the wickets in their pursuit of the Burghley total.
Good bowling spells from Dickie Meadows (3 overs, 1 wicket for 15 runs), Ellis (3 overs, 0 for 16) and Brewster (3 overs, 0 for 16) demonstrated the ongoing improvement that this Burghley team are making but the Stamford team managed to overhaul the target that had been set for them and were the victors on the day.
