Ketton won by eight wickets at Foxton in the Cambs League Division One on Saturday, which was a surprise to captain Rob Vitas,
“I have never been on the winning side against Foxton in all my years at Castor and Ketton. In fact this was the first time I can remember my side reaching 100.”
Ketton actually breezed past Foxton’s 189-7 after useful contributions from Rob Woolley (61), Ben Bryant (54no), Josh Gallimore (32) and Ulrich Van Duyker (28). Van Duyker (4-31) also bowled well.
Elsewhere Gary Freear bowled Wisbech to the top of Division One.
The long-serving club legend returned career-best figures of 7-25 from nine overs to seal a 24-run win at Nassington. Freear took full advantage of a wicket fast-gaining a reputation for excessive turn.
Nassington were 64-1 chasing 132 before Freear took charge with a spell that included a run of three wickets in four balls. Opener Dan Robinson (47) was the key wicket.
Wisbech also suffered a batting collapse as they reached 72-1 thanks to the efforts of Sam Albutt (35) and Josh Bowers (31). Freear, batting down the order because of a sore heel also made a vital 31, while 15 year-old slow bowler Harrison Craig (4-30) maintained his excellent form for Nassington.
Wisbech are now top by two points as previous leaders Godmanchester failed to beat Histon.
