LAXTON Park secured their third league win on the bounce in an encounter that went to the very last ball of the game.
Playing Bourne 2nd XI at Bourne, Laxton won the toss and elected to bat first but they never really got going, scoring slowly. They were pegged back by some fine bowling from Archie Stroud (3-25) and Mark Gunthorpe (3-20) and bowled out for 169 with Bobby Howe (37) and Angus Boyle (31*).
With 170 to win, Bourne got off to the worst start losing Matthew Marshall in the third over. Bourne soon lost the wickets of Jon Stainsby and Dirk Binns leaving the hosts 42 for 3 after 15.
Star bowler Archie Stroud came to the crease and supported Jeffrey Gunthorpe valiantly as the pair made 54 and 52 respectively, putting Bourne in control of the game.
But Laxton Park have got used to winning of late, and were by no means out. Boyle came back into the attack and took the key wicket of Jeffrey Gunthorpe, superbly caught in the gully by Adam Renton.
Bourne needed 35 from the final five overs but tight bowling from Boyle and Bobby Howe left Bourne 2nd XI requiring 10 from the last over to win.
Bourne scored six from the first four deliveries. With the fifth ball of the over, James Howe ran out Stroud and Mark Gunthorpe could only run the final ball to third man as Laxton hung on.
