UPPINGHAM were beaten by Division One leaders Oundle in the Rutland League on Sunday.
Town batted first on a wet wicket and made slow progress against good bowling from Oundle’s Mohamed Qadeer (1 wicket for 16 runs) and Leon Le Roux (3 for 33).
Jamie Dumford batted solidly for Town and top-scored with 43 before getting trapped lbw after a second wicket partnership of 47 with Mark Cox (30).
Uppingham lost wickets steadily after the departure of Dumford and Cox, with several players getting into double figures, but the spin bowling of David Foster proved too much. Foster took four wickets for just 5 runs in 3.5 overs, snaffling the final two Uppingham wickets for just one run as Town ended on 155.
Oundle began their innings cautiously, scoring just 16 from the first 10 overs. But James Chambers scored an excellent 54 before he was bowled by Danny Dumford and a third wicket partnership of 52 between Cameron Wake (42no) and Mark Hodgeson (34) gave Oundle a comfortable win in the 41st over.
George Scott, playing his first league game for the first team, bowled superbly taking one wicket for 12 runs from his five overs.
Will Armstrong took two good catches but Uppingham will rue several dropped catches.
