A cracking 40 runs off four overs triggered an emphatic and brutal response from division two leaders Market Overton on Sunday.

Medbourne were chasing Marko’s modest 156 in their Rutland League tie when they made the mistake of hitting out and waking a monster.

After conceding 40 runs, Marko’s bowlers went on the rampage with skipper Paul Thwaites taking 7 for 50 and Mike Roberts 3 for 26 as Medbourne were dismissed for 104 in 23 overs.

“They came out all guns blazing,” said Thwaites, whose side boast 10 victories in 11 matches and host their county rivals Uppingham on Sunday.

“After tea they hit 40 off four overs. Nobody has done that to us all season and we didn’t like it.

“So we changed a few things. Mike pinned them back and they had to attack me more.

“They are a decent outfit but I always felt that once we got among them we could cause damage.”
