EMPINGHAM angler Darren Hayward and Leicester’s Ron Brown caught two of the week’s best fish at Rutland Water.
Ron began a tremendous day with a 6lb 2oz rainbow and added seven more for a total of 28lb. Ron anchored up, fishing nymphs while Darren recorded the best rainbow off the bank, a 5lb 11oz fish which fell to a buzzer.
Several eight fish limits in excess of 24lb were taken in the past week with most success in the South Arm.
The best bank areas have been at Normanton, the North shore of the peninsula, around the sailing club, and at New Zealand Point and East Creek.
A few boat anglers fished the extremes of the North Arm and caught well at the weekend. The best methods for boat anglers have been floating line with a buoyant fly on the point, small floating fry or boobie on the point with diawl bachs/crunchers (pheasant tail) with green metallic rib or holographic cheeks working well.
