STAMFORD Indoor Bowls Club’s mixed county league team scored an impressive first away win when they toppled Grantham 107-91 to secure 14 Division Two points.
The win included an extension of Peter Banks’ rink’s unbeaten record thanks to a six shot turnover on the 20th end.
Peter, together with wife Lorna and Tony and Denise Mackie, trailed 6-13 after 11 ends but eventually scraped home 21-20 – one of three winning Stamford rinks, the best of which was the 37-16 triumph by Sharon Bailey, Rosemary Roberts, Dick Ford and Martyn Dolby.
In the Trudy Bates Women’s League Stamford earned an impressive 18-shot victory over local rivals Sleaford, which included a maximum eight count on one end by June Brennan, Margaret Andrews, Denise Mackie and Christine Ford.
It was an end that transformed the game. Stamford had trailed by 10 shots at the halfway stage but as Ford’s rink surged ahead, the tide turned and all home rinks responded.
Stamford’s men’s team secured 12 vital points in the over 60s county league with a 100-88 shots success at Long Sutton where Alan Romaine and Albert Horton led their respective rinks to comfortable wins.
In Federation competitions there were recent wins for Maureen Montgomery and Connie Cox in the women’s pairs semi-final and for former holder Doug Want in the over 65 singles.
