Ana makes her national debut

UPPINGHAM’s Ana Webber, who plays for Oakham Tennis Club, has made her national competition debut.

The 14-year-old, who trains full time with an LTA centre of excellence at Loughborough, played in the singles and doubles at the 14 and Under British Junior Nationals at Nottingham recently.

Ana, who was hampered by a wrist injury, lost her first round singles match but reached the quarter finals of the consolation matches, before going out to the UK number seven.

She partnered Dorset’s Megan Rogers in the doubles, where again she reached the quarter finals, where the pair lost 6-3 6-2 to the number two seeds.

Ana’s mum Karin, said: “They put up a good fight with several games to deuce.

“She could have gone further without the injury which affected serving and volleying but she really enjoyed the challenge.”

The winter season begins at the weekend and Ana’s next step with be in 16 and under competitions.
