RUTLAND Water’s Tuesday Night Boat League came to an exciting conclusion this week.
Richard Cooper led the series with 68 points, just one ahead of Keith Jones going into the final round only for Jones to leapfrog him to first place in the final round.
Keith was second on Tuesday, behind Rob Edmunds, but his five fish, 9lb 10oz catch was enough to seal the title.
Final league standings: 1st Keith Jones 74 points; 2nd Richard Cooper 69; 3rd Adi Naylor 44.
Results (week 15): 1st Rob Edmunds, 7 fish for 13lb 13oz; 2nd Keith Jones; 3rd Paul Wilde 3 for 5lb 2oz; 4th Dave Knapp 2 for 3lb 3oz; Geoff Wantless, 2 for 3lb 8oz; 6th Adi Naylor, 1 for 2lb 1oz.
Mick Bennett from Ridlington had won the 14th and penultimate match of this year’s series. With Jones second and Cooper third.
Results (week 14): 1st Mick Bennett, 6 fish for 13lb 7¼oz; 2nd Keith Jones, 6 for 12lb 7oz; 3rd Richard Cooper, 6 for 11lb 10oz.
* AMONG the best catches of the week was a 25lb 11oz bag for 18-year-old Matthew Holdroyd from Northumberland.
His eight fish limit included one a fraction under 5lb. He boat fished the North Arm shallows with a set up of boobie on the point and nymph combination and despite the bright conditions found fish moving on the top.
Another angler to enjoy rich pickings was Wal Holynski of Leicester. He only started fly fishing this season, following a beginners course at Rutland Water and claimed the best fish of the week with a 6lb 1oz rainbow. Heeding the advice of tackle shop assistant Robbie Winram, he fished the North Arm shallows off the bank, using a small mylar floating fry as suggested by Rutland Water warden Nigel Savage.
