Market Overton Bowls Club is eager for ne members to join ahead of the new season.
The Club begins the 2013 outdoor season with the cheese and wine evening at the clubhouse on Saturday, April 6 at 8pm when anyone considering taking up the sport will be very welcome.
Club spokesman Annette Oliver said: “Market Overton is a club with many experienced players ready to give advice and a few tips to beginners and coaching sessions can be arranged if required.
“However it is true to say that a number of the newer members without any experience at all initially just came along on one of our ‘Chummy nights’ to get the feel of the game and gained experience as they went along. “
All the equipment that beginners need is available at the club. All newcomers require is a pair of flat rubber soled shoes.
The club is run by volunteers all year around with two gala events among the highlights. There are also league matches and friendly games against other local clubs.
Annette added: “We would love to encourage younger players and hopefully the skills of those on television in recent programmes will have inspired some.
“For a good social atmosphere, exercise in the fresh air, and an opportunity to learn a new skill there is nothing like a game of bowls.
“A single session can be arranged during the day or evening when one of our members will be happy to have a ‘roll-up’ with any prospective player if the thought of a rink full of players is daunting.”
During the winter months the club organises social events including whist, quizzes, dominos and a few indoor games at indoor rinks.
