RUTLAND County Golf Club captain Gerry McIntyre celebrated his Captain’s Day with a large group of members, guests and family who helped raise £500 for his chosen charity, Peterborough Chemotherapy Unit.
The Halfway House provided a welcome haven for damp and hungry golfers with tea, cake and something a bit stronger offered by Gerry’s helpers.
Results: 1st Paul Milsom 40pts, 2nd Roger Overton 39, 3rd Andy Vernon 37, 4th Bob Haynes 36. Ladies - 1st Ann Milsom 32pts, 2nd Suzanne Huxley 29, 3rd Karen Palmer 27.
l RUMOURS among Rutland County Seniors that Geoff Emery had played 27 holes in division 1 to accumulate his enormous 48 point, winning Stableford tally did not save him from the attention of the handicap secretary who chopped Geoff three shots, down to 16.
Robin Douglas had an impressive 44 points for second followed by Keith Barratt on 42. Up-and-coming Alan Weedon stormed away with division 2 scoring 40 points. John Phipps was second on 37 and Alan Pearce third on 36. John Downey scored 88 pts to win the Seniors Roll-up.
l THE C team finally lost, 4-2 at Toft, a difficult venue where home advantage really comes into play.
Scores: Craig Brydon and Steve Lowe lost 4&2, Dave Aust and Pete King lost 5&3, Phil Drury and Phil Jordan lost 5&5, Cliff Knapp and Chris Palmer won 2&1, Craig Allan started on the 6th to partner Andy Vernon to a 2&1 win, Dave Rippin and Pete Siciliano lost 5&4.

The home pair canned putts all over the course to win 4 and 2, with a final monstrous 45-footer from Vernon on the 16th hole.
l THE mixed team beat Kettering GC on County’s inland links-style course by a convincing 6.5 to 1.5.
