A NETBALL club that formed after successful trial of two school teams at the 2010 Rutland and Leicestershire Youth Games now has more than 60 players.

Girls from as young as five train on Mondays at Catmose College Sports Hall and two teams now play in the Junior netball league at Soar Valley, Leicester.

As well as the junior sessions, which run from 4pm until 7pm, adult sessions follow from 7pm until 8pm.

The success of the Rockets, under the direction of coach Samantha Griffin and chairman Debbie Kennard-Kettle, along with Thursday evening netball featuring Catmose Cougars and others reflects a rapid growth in the number of netball players in Rutland.

With growth comes a greater workload and the Rockets are currently looking for new members to join their committee. As a new club, the initial costs such as kit were covered by parents but now the club keen to find sponsorship to help fund further development of the club.

Rockets’ sessions cost £3 per player and more players are welcome. For details about joining or sponsoring the Rockets call either Samantha on 07940 543290 or Debbie on 07745 903897.
