Stamford’s Alec Murphy won rich praise from his coach this week after recording his seventh win in nine bouts.
Murphy, 15, beat Norwich’s Arron Blanchflower - a finalist in last year’s Schoolboy Championships - in a rematch of a fight won by the Stamford boxer in February.
Stamford ABC coach Rick Green said: “The club may be looking at its first national champion. I’m sure his hard work and the guidance from his training coach Danial Heames (a former national champion) will pay off and bring him the title he deserves.”
Alec will now enter the Junior ABA championships in April.
Stamford Amateur Boxing Club trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Stamford fire station. For details call Rick Green on 07966 302757.
