Cooper lands title at the end of a superb season

The 2013 Tuesday Night Boat League at Rutland Water has been won by Empingham’s Richard Cooper.

He finished with an impressive 83 points, 19 points in front of second placed 2012 winner Keith Jones.

Richard’s dad, Gary, won a prize for bagging the best fish of the series - an 8lb 14½oz rainbow trout taken in week 10.

The 2013 season was the most successful year yet for the popular league with some outstanding bags of fish recorded. The final match of the series saw 12 anglers catch an impressive 72 fish in less than three hours, including six limits.

Results for the night were close with just 2¼oz separating the top three places.

Ady Naylor from Wing was first with eight fish for 18lb 14½oz, ahead of Keith Jones and Richard Cooper who weighed in bags of 18lb 12¼oz (although Richard took the weight with one less fish, seven to Keith’s eight).

Final top six placings: 1st Richard Cooper 83 pts; 2nd Keith Jones 64; 3rd Warren Langridge 55; 4th Graham Hayward 46; 5th Geoff Wanless 38; 6th Gary Cooper 37.

l There has been an excellent return of fish for the time of the year with a rod average of 4.61.

The best fish of the week weighed 6lb 11½oz and was caught by Oakham’s Ziggy Lesiakowski.

Edith Weston’s Karl Cowzer caught a 6lb 10½oz rainbow while drifting off Normanton Church. This fine fish gave him a 15 minute battle on his 5 weight rod.

Warden Mick Brooksby, caught a 6lb 7¼oz rainbow while the best brown of 
the week went to Al Gamble who netted a 4lb 4½oz specimen.
