Rutland County’s A team tops the league and is on the verge of promotion in the scratch league following a determined assault on the shores of Rutland Water Golf Club, which resulted in a 6-2 win.
Ollie Freckingham won five and four, Michael Pressick won seven and six, Chris Palmer lost one down, Darren Thomson won three and two, John Peyser lost five and three, Deggie Palmer won two and one, Russ Aust won three and two, Andy Vernon won seven and six. A win in the last match against Charnwood Forest guarantees promotion.
The B team played well at home to comfortably dispose of Stoke Rochford 5-1. Gerry McIntyre and Andy Vernon lost one down, Peter Siciliano and Craig Allan won three and two, Paul Milsom and Andy Lawrence won one up, Ollie Huxley and Martyn Gatehouse won three and two, Pete Woolley and Dave Waddell won four and three, Rick Collins and Chris Palmer won two up.
Willie Keatings dominated the field in blustery conditions to win the August mid-week medal by a clear three shots on 83-17-66. Chris Deakin was the only other player to come in under par on net 69 ahead of Pete Siciliano on net 71. Russ Aust held his game for best gross 79.
Greetham Valley C finished strongly to snatch a half at Rutland County with the home Capt Gerry McIntyre and partner Phil Jordan being undone three and two in the last pairing by the hot combo of Michael Fish and Tony Curry. Dave Ripin and Ollie Huxley halved, Dave Whitehead and Cliff Knapp won one up, Bob Ambrose and Josh Paylor lost one down, Steve Lowe and Jordan Paylor won one up, Chris Palmer and Jamie Goddard halved. Result 3-3.
