Last week, the Bourne Wheelers’ two top performing youths, Lizzie Catlow and Jessica Woodworth, both received confirmation that they’ve been selected to represent the East Midlands in this year’s Sainsburys UK School Games.

The competition is based at Loughborough this year and will see the girls compete in five races over three days in September.

After both girls narrowly missed out on selection last year, they will both be keen to make their mark at the championships.

Although a couple of months away, Jess and Lizzie will be keen to hold the excellent form they’ve held all year, with multiple top 10s at National Series races between them, showing how deserving they are of there places in the team.

After just making up the numbers for the last three years, the East Midlands girls team are ranked the second strongest in the country this season, so both Lizzie and Jess will be hoping to emulate there former teammate, Sian Botteley who won two golds and a bronze when she raced the UK School
Games in 2012.

Jess also had a great ride last week taking the Lincolnshire 10 mile title from Bourne’s other top 16 year old Maddie Gammons by 17 seconds, and in so doing gained qualification to the national final
along with teammates, Alice Standish, who won the 14 year-old category, Bryn Richards who won the 13 year-old boys category and Rory Standish, who helped secure the team title.

Lizzie this week has the National circuit championship race at Redbridge, a course that she has already won at this year. She will be joined on the start line by Alice, with Alex and Dan Galpin being the other Bourne riders chasing the national title in the Under 12 category.
