A BUSY weekend at Rutland County Golf Club saw David Rippin celebrate his Captain’s Day with members helping him raise nearly £1,000 on a blazing hot day for Mcmillan Cancer Support.

Events on the course were equally as hot, especially for 14 year-old Josh Paylor who took first place with 43 points just pipping the more experienced Pete Collins on countback. Pete Maksymiw topped a trio on 41 points to claim third spot on countback. John Peyser was fourth with senior representative John Mason in fifth. Alan Roper was top guest on 38 points.

Top Lady was Karen Palmer with 39 points, closely followed by Imogen Huxley on 38.

A notable achievement for the Ladies was Michelle Collins’ capture of a Gallon of Whisky in the green bowls target comp!

l RUTLAND County’s Director’s Trophy featured a flurry of good scores and a second notable performance from the fast improving Josh Paylor whose winning net 63 featured a nine on the last and a 3 shot handicap reduction. He now plays off 15.

Chris Palmer shot a best gross 70 for second place with a net 66. Martyn Gatehouse was third with 80-11-69.

Another notable milestone was the arrival of Olly Huxley as a category one player – his gross 76 earning him fourth place and a new handicap of 5.3.

Best lady’s score went to Suzanne Huxley’s net 73 with Mandy Collins getting best-dressed golfer on the day. Her husband Rick received Most in need of improvement but was consoled with one of just a pair of 2’s recorded in the competition.

Roger Overton flicked a lazy 4-iron to six feet on the 167 yard 17th for nearest pin and Imogen Huxley crashed her tee shot 258 yards for longest drive on the 9th.

l PAT Wright captained the Ladies team to a 3-1 victory over Toft in Bridget Yardley’s absence.

Results: Meg Tasker and Barbara Fisher won 5 and 4; Carole Wescott and Kathy Horner lost 2 down; Anne Milsom and Michelle Powell won 1 up; Pat Wright and Jackie Cole also won 1 up.

l COUNTY’s Men’s C Team won 4½-1½ at Greetham Valley despite captain Dave Rippin and Gerry McIntyre being spanked 8 and 7 in the first match.

Andy Vernon and Ollie Huxley won 2 and 1, Chris Palmer and Cliff Knapp won 2 and 1, Ian Rice and Martyn Gatehouse won 3 and 2, Neil Armstrong and Steve Lowe halved, Kev Moxham and Barry Cheshire won 3 and 1.

l The B team lost 3½-2½ at Stoke Rochford.

Results: Pete Siciliano and Josh Paylor won 7 and 6; Chris Palmer and Kev Moxham won 4 and 3; Deggie Palmer and Packa Risi lost 5 and 4; Rod Goss and Gerry McIntyre halved; Craig Allan and Dave Waddell lost 7 and 6, Bill Pearson and Dave Rippin lost 4 and 2.

l RUTLAND County’s seniors enjoyed a resounding 8-0 victory at home against Boston.

l THE Seniors Stableford was won by Barry Malthouse in division one with 42 points.

Second, with 39 points was Keith Barratt, ahead of Dave Lynas on countback.

Division two was won by Colin Brown with 38 points. Second was Joe Smith on 37, beating Matt Kunen on countback.

The following handicap adjustments were made: Barry Malthouse from 17 to 16.
Dave Lynas from 13 to 12. 
John Chatburn from 17 to 16.

l TWO from three competition winners with 79 points on countback were John Downey, Brian Hester, Barry Malthouse and John Bremner.
