Bourne Deeping Dragons go into tomorrow’s match at Cambridge University with an unbeaten record after three games.
The hockey club’s men’s 1st team beat Dereham’s 2nd XI last weekend to keep stretch their winning run to three games in the East league’s 2N Division.
Dereham are one of the league’s best sides and threatened with quick breaks in the opening 15 minutes but BDHC withstood the early pressure and it did not take long for the Dragons take the lead. Nick Glover pounced on a shot from Ben Slack to lift the ball into the roof of the net.
Dereham continued to push forward with attractive one touch hockey and this this paid off with a well-finished goal to level the scores level at 1-1.
As half-time approached, the Dragons won a short corner and Chris Clarkson confidently flicked inside the right hand post, deceiving the keeper and giving Bourne Deeping the lead.
Bourne Deeping ladies put in an excellent display against Alford but were caught on the break early in the first half.
Gemma Caitlin scored from the top of the D to pull one back for the ladies but before half time Alford scored from a rare attack to make it 2-1 and this time BDHC were unable to pull a goal back.
