Oakham Bowling Club’s Tuesday team opened their season with an excellent 83-71 win at Westcotes.

The match was evenly balanced until the final four ends when Oakham managed to draw away and win by 12 shots.

Ivan Lang, Chris Wallis and Rick Tarleton were Oakham’s winning skips.

Scores: Lyn Walters, David Morgan, Terry Thurman and Ivan Lang won 27-14; Bob Spence, Ian Munro, Peter Gleeson and Chris Wallis won 23-17; Ray Stace, Ken Jennings, Gail Robertson and Rick Tarleton won 21-19; Eddie Owen, John Moore, Rod Stanley and Bob Hammond lost 12-21.

Oakham’s Saturday team continued their fine start to the season with a comprehensive 76-55 win against Knighton Victoria.

The match was played in beautiful Spring sunshine and Oakham showed their liking for the conditions by winning on three of the four rinks.

Winnng Oakham skips were Denis Smith, Gail Robertson and Chris Wallis.

Scores: Lyn Walters, David Hillier, Terry Thurman and Denis Smith won 22-14; Richard Ward, Mary Smith, Chris Smith and Gail Robertson won 19-11; David Thorne, Ray Wilkins, Ray Gregory and Chris Wallis won 18-12; Jenny Bateman, Peter Gleeson, Barrie Payne and Ivan Lang lost 17-18.

Oakham Bowling Club held a well attended annual opening night on April 12 with new and existing members.

Men’s president Rod Groombridge and ladies president Di Culshaw bowled the first woods of the new season to officially open the green for bowling.
