Stamford Free Church overcame Eastfield MTTG 5-2 to earn a first round tie against Braunston A in the Ketco Cup.

John Chambers and Rob Elliott picked up two points each for the Church side to win the competition’s final preliminary round tie. Adam Jepson won twice for the hosts.

Uffington CC A completed their promising league season with an 8-2 win over the Stamford and Rutland League First Division’s bottom club Bourne B. Greg Baker and Matt Durrands – both unbeaten on the night - have enjoyed excellent first campaigns in division one, and the team has earned a winning overall season.

The only other match played in the top division this week was a hard-fought draw between Stamford

School and Bourne A.

Denise Jacobi had the most successful – and competitive – night by winning all of her singles matches in the fifth and final leg. Richard Henry supported her with two wins, while young Rutwik Zapake showed continued improvement, particularly in the doubles rubber. Mike Willis replied with two wins for Bourne.

Braunston B continue to pile the pressure on the chasing teams in division two by winning comfortably.

This week they overcame Bourne E 9-1, and have opened up a lead of ten points at the top. Vic Hoffman and David Smart earned full-houses, while Bill Seese won twice. Bourne’s Ian Lines picked up an impressive win against Bill.

Stamford Free Church have eased into second place by winning 8-2 at Nomads.

New signing

Ralph Rogers continued his fine form by remaining unbeaten, while Rob Elliott and John

Chambers each won twice. Nick McDowall was Nomads’ points scorer with two wins.

Paul Ramm was the only unbeaten player in the match between Tallington A and Bourne D.

However, despite also winning the doubles with Richard Allen, the consistency of Bourne’s

Stuart Wills, Kevin Greenfield and Chris Holland, who all won twice, meant that maximum points went to the visitors.
