A CRACKING 6lb 8oz rainbow was the biggest catch of the week at Rutland Water.
Frank Cotter of Widmerpool, Nottingham, was the lucky angler and caught the fish using a floating fry.
He said: “My boat partner and I came in for lunch, not having caught anything. We had a chat with Rutland warden Nigel Savage who suggested anchoring up at the sailing club and fishing floating line with a floating fry.
“Nigel’s advice worked and I caught a 6lb 8oz beauty – a personal best,”
The average size of fish remains high and Steve Crowder took a 6lb 2¾oz rainbow while boat fishing in the North Arm and Trevor Harvey took a 6lb 6oz fish.
During a short session on the Sykes Lane bank, Exton’s Jamie Weston caught a fine 5lb 4oz specimen that fell to a suspender minkie. This fish had been feeding on Perch fry – some of them more 4 inches long. Meanwhile Jim Watts and Mike Barratt caught eight fish with three weighing more than 4lb using minkies and blobs.
