The Toft GC ladies’ team faced a tricky home match against Milton in the first round of the Mail On Sunday national competition.

Only one individual match reached the 18th hole but that result gave Toft a nail-biting 3-2 win.

Helen Roscoe just lost her match 2&1 and Dianne Clayton was unfortunate to come up against a Milton player who could not put a foot wrong and lost 7&6.

Lorraine Robinson and Cathy Lee won their matches handsomely by 5&3 and 5&4 respectively to level overall.

It was Lisa Gauci who clinched it for Toft having come down the 18th 1 up. She won the last hole for a 2 up result, putting Toft through to host Burghley Park in the next round. Non-playing captain Mandy Lees was delighted.

Ten Toft ladies took part in the Winter Eclectic competition which ran from November 1, 2013 through to February 28, 2014 taking in a maximum of nine rounds registering improved individual hole scores.

In what turned out to be the most inhospitable period of weather, most players managed to complete 8 rounds of gutsy golf and thoroughly deserved their final ratings.

Mairead Scott emerged the winner with a nett 61.94 score just ahead of Lisa Gauci on 62.13.

Helen Roscoe was 3rd on 65.00.
