OAKHAM School girls have qualified for the national indoor hockey finals to be held in January.

With rivals Trent College not attending the tournament, which was held at Wolverhampton, Oakham knew they had a fighting chance of reaching the final and put in a solid set of performances.

Wellingborough were first up and were unfortunate not to get something from the game but Oakham scraped through and went on to improve throughout the day.

With good wins against Chase and King’s High in the group stages, a tight semi-final against Bromsgrove followed.

Bromsgrove took the lead but a strong second half performance put Oakham into the final, automatically securing a place in the national finals.

The final itself produced high quality hockey but reigning champions Repton were too strong for Oakham and ran out 3-1 winners.

Amelia Johnson was Oakham’s star player, backed up well by Caitlin Jeffries and Amelia Milton.
