Leicestershire’s over 65s’ team, skippered by Oakham’s Gordon Reekie, have reached a play-off to be crowned British Champions.
They have completed their Division 1A league matches without loss and will face the division 1B winners - likely to be Yorkshire at Birmingham in November.
The team’s most recent victory was a comprehensive 5-0 triumph against Buckinghamshire last Wednesday, to secure their division winners status - a first for the team who have worked their way up from division three without loss in the past two seasons.
However they did not have it all their own way with Mark Cox, who has played all matches, losing one of his singles rubbers.
Richard Tutt remains unbeaten in singles while Reekie and Cliff Smith lost only two rubbers in all their doubles matches.
Reserve team member Alan Brownhill has played doubles in three matches, winning two and losing two rubbers.
