RUTLAND Water anglers have recorded several big fish this week with Oakham’s Tom Pattenden and Grant McMurry weighing two crackers.
The pair boat fished the North Arm where they caught a 6lb 9½oz brown and a 5lb 11½oz rainbow.
Tom said: “With good fish moving around the boat at the time, I knew if we could land one it would be a good weight.”
Tom landing the brown and Grant the rainbow.
Bank angler John Wadham of Oakham landed an impressive 6lb 7oz rainbow from the bank at the top of the North Arm.
He said: “I took this fish on a small floating fry – it was a 13 year personal best.” And it seems that, like buses, big fish come in pairs because John caught a 5lb 7oz fish on his very next cast.
The bigger fish are feeding on a good mixture of sticklebacks, fry, corixa and the odd snail. Prospects look good with fish feeding on the surface. Sunday evening saw a fall of flying ants and some early daddy long legs are also showing. l THE Anglian Water Four Man Loch Style event was contested by 17 teams with a rod average of 4.43.
Fished to an eight fish limit with no time bonus, the winning team was Seighford Sharks B with 32 fish for 65lb 7¾oz. Top rod was Si Gaines fishing for RAF Fish Hawks A with a total bag weight of 23lb 12½oz. He also took the best fish at 5lb 2 3/8oz.
