Rutland U14s netball team proved they are among the best in the East Midlands when they finished fourth at the recent 2013 regional tournament.

The girls, who had not played as a team before, performed excellently during a full day of matches and produced some great results.

They beat Allestree Swifts 7-1, Allestree Doves 6-5, Corby 7-3, Clifftonettes Mix 10-3, Brigg 6-1 before facing several more experienced sides.

Rutland fought for a 7-7 against Clifftonnettes who finished third, and then battled hard against Charnwood, narrowly losing 5-4 to the runners-up.

Rutland’s toughest match was against Futureprint, with the eventual winners beating Rutland 11-4. By their final game, Rutland were tiring and lost 9-6 to Fenland.

Coach Sam Griffin said: “It was an excellent result for the girls and they have proved they are a club to watch in the future.”
