Oakham’s Marion Carvath was among 96 members of Stoke Rochford Golf Club at the annual captains’ drive-in on Sunday 3.
Lady captain Marion and club captain Peter Gill hosted a competition for teams of four playing a Stableford format with the best two scores counting on each hole.
The winners, with a huge total of 95 points, were Paul Verner, Simon Mulvy, Brian Talbot and Simon Yelland.
In second, with 89 points, were Andy Croft, Rory Croft, Richard Allan and Matt Allan. Third place, with 85 points, went to Paul Evans, Darren Evans, Greg Shelton and Craig Hallam.
A large audience gathered to witness the new captains hit a tee shot down the first hole and both Captains also announced their choice of charity for the next 12 months.
Peter will be raising money throughout the year for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society while Marion Carvath will be fundraising for The Woodland Trust. £500 raised on the day will be split between the two charities.
Club Captain Peter Gill said: “Both the lady captain and I were delighted with the support received from fellow members. Everyone taking part in the Drive In competition had a great time and it was a wonderful beginning to our year.”
