Greetham ladies will defend their Lincolnshire Scratch League title against Woodhall Spa after securing top spot in the Southern division.

They reached their North-South play-off with a stylish victory at Stoke Rochford.

Emma Tipping won the first game 7&6. Sophie Beardsall, who had just returned from the Islands Cup competition in Bermuda where she had represented the Isle of Wight and took silver, beat June Miller 4&2; and Gilly Grant won 2&1.

Greetham’s ladies team have lost just one league match all season as they won the southern division with a game in hand with ten point already in the bag. Their nearest rivals Stoke Rochford and Belton Park have four points each.

The North-South showdown takes place at Kenwick in September.

Greetham have won the title for the last two years and captain Gilly Grant said the team members have supported her and each other magnificently.

l A field of 140 played in the Captains Day at the weekend where every single hole was sponsored.

The men’s competition was won with a magnificent 46 points by 22-handicapper Marc Joyce. He dropped six shots on the front and the same on the back nine and was cut to 13.

Second and third were settled on countback after three players each scored 44. Ken Mason took second, Ross Mawhinney third and Nick Pearce was pushed back into fourth.

The Ladies competition was settled on countback with Ladies Scratch team member Liz Haughton winning due to a better record over the final three holes. She was level on 38 points with Gilly Grant. Lesley Young was third on 37.

l David Wallace and Brampton Park’s Colin Allinson won the seniors Invitation at Greetham with 42 points.

They beat last year’s winners, Fred Aspin and David Jackson, from Burghley Park, who came in with 41. Third place was the pairing of Peter Perryman and his playing partner, P Williams from Cambridge Menzies, on 40.

The seniors enjoyed another big win last week, beating Sleaford 7.5-0.5 at home. The Greetham team will be way of Sleaford gaining revenge in the reverse fixture in a couple of weeks time.
