RUTLAND Water Fly Fishers have broken new ground this month by becoming the first angling club in the East Midlands to be awarded Clubmark accreditation.
Clubmark is backed by Sport England and it confirms that the club had signed up to the Angling Trust’s child protection and sports equity policies, as well as showing a commitment to developing its junior section.
James Roche, regional officer for the Angling Trust said: “RWFF have made great strides over the past 12 months to make their club more open to young anglers.
“This year’s Youth Day will be one of the largest participation days of its kind but most importantly, the club are now supplementing this with regular coaching sessions, making it one of the leading flyfishing clubs for junior development in the East Midlands.”
Rutland Water Fly Fishers’ junior co-ordinator, Chris Evans, said: “The club are very proud to gain Clubmark accreditation. We all see this as an important step to meeting our future goal to increase the number of young people participating in flyfishing at Rutland Water and across our region.”
