BOURNE Deeping Ladies put up a strong fight against title-chasing Long Sutton on Saturday but were ultiately beaten by a single late strike.

BDHC gave an impressive performance in their penultimate game of the season - a tough match that which Sutton had to win to confirm their promotion.

Strict umpiring meant the game never really flowed, but Laura Tompson-Wright, Sue Oakley, and Becky Allam worked well down the right wing, and Camilla Smith and Natasha Newitt on the left also had some chances. However, the forwards were forced to help defend there was often no-one to receive the final pass.

Sutton proved stronger in the second half and broke the deadlock towards the end, despite excellent defending and brilliant saves from Katie Woodward which earned her the player of the match title.
