Rutland faced an uphill battle against Newmarket on Saturday as several debutants played.
The tough test was made worse when Newmarket scored a goal within the first three minutes of the the game due to a misunderstanding between some experienced players at the back.
As soon as Rutland restarted the game the new players started to show their hockey skill shy beating players and passing the ball at will. This created the first short corner opportunity which Rachel Richardson scored.
From this point Rutland remained on top, with Newmarket failing to respond.
Rachel scored another goal with a superb hit.
Newmarket created some opportunities with lots of runs down the left wing, but Harriet Crennell kept her nerve with some fine defending.
There was a fine solo run from Polly Baker, who finished it with a goal.
Alex Haggis had a strong game at centre forward which gave confidence to the new, younger players around her.
The final goal was created by Georgie Boon who crossed the ball across the D, where Megan Player was perfectly placed to slot it home, and make the final score 4 -1 to Rutland.
