Rutland Horseshoes 4
Leicester Thursday (LHA) 2
RUTLAND Horseshoes become the first team this season to beat LHA with Saturday’s 4-2 victory.
Horseshoes’ best performance of the season came with curfews in place after the previous weekend’s hungover horror show. Although with players out of their usual positions due to illness and availability, it took a while for the Horseshoes to find their feet.
Thursday opened the scoring from a strong short corner routine in the first two minutes but it wasn’t long before Wes Durston had levelled with a brilliant goal, displaying some fine stick skills.
Horseshoes soaked up Thursday’s pressure before counter-attacking and scoring from a penalty flick for a 2-1 half time lead. Durston had the vital final touch.
The Rutland side dominated the second half and a great pass from Kevin Stanton-King set up Tim Sweet to score Horseshoe’s third.
League top scorer Chris Meadows then got in on the act, scoring Rutland’s fourth before the Leicester side pulled one back to finish 4-2.
It was an epic display from a battered Horseshoes team who are in cup action on Saturday.
