TWELVE year old Jimmy Morten beat the senior players to take the 2011 Bourne Snooker Centre adult title this week.
Morten beat Frank Leigh in a tight three hour context in which each game was close but the youngster, who attends the Deeping School, won 3-2 to take the crown.
Leigh, a regular player at Bourne Snooker Centre team, gave Morten a 35 point head start based on his handicap and his young adversary took advantage, tactically removing as many reds as possible in the opening and closing frame to reduce the chances of the more experienced player getting into his stride.
Morten played intelligent safety shots and worked hard on his positional play which Ian Walker, his snooker coach said was one of his strengths.
Walker was confident his student would succeed and said: “He has an old head on young shoulders.”
Morten even switched to playing left handed shots when he couldn’t reach the cue ball.
The new champion will play the next professional to visit the club later this year.
