Rutland Hockey Club Ladies are closing in on the Cambridgeshire League title.
Rutland, who play Cambridge University’s 3rd XI on Saturday, trail leaders Wisbech by just two points but have two games in hand of their rivals.
They brushed aside Spalding 2nd XI 5-0 last Saturday with top scorer Anne Pollock scoring a hat-trick.
Rutland were immediately on the offensive, attacking down the right wing and delivering plenty of crosses into the circle.
Chedd implemented the tactics perfectly, beating her defender every time and giving Nikki Perry and Kerry Rough plenty of crosses to attack. Perry latched onto one of these crosses and shot first time at goal, and with the goal keeper only able to clear a short distance the rebound was easily dispatched for the first goal.
The second goal was scored in a similar manner and Chedd deservedly scored the third goal with a great solo run from the right wing.
With Charlotte Brooks in goal easily dealing with the rare counter attacks from Spalding, Rutland were in a comfortable position and looked to practice various short corners and tactics in preparation for future games. These paid off with Rutland scoring a short corner and another open field goal before the end of the game’
l Rutland’s men beat Wisbech 2nd XI 3-2 strengthening their grip on fourth place in the Men’s East League 3NW division.
The team, which has been hit by players leaving for university to play for school sides in recent years, is off the pace of the top three but can secure fourth spot with two wins in their remaining four games.
They play Cambridge City 4th XI at home on Saturday.
