The second round of the Bourne Wheelers mid-week TT league on Thursday saw riders step-up to the more familiar 10 mile distance over the Greatford course.

On a cool, windy night, 16 riders took to the start line, including local elite riders Steve Lampier, who was fastest on the night in 23 minutes 5 seconds, and Tom Neale.

It was business as usual in the scratch race with the top three coming home in the same order as race one.

First was Tom Comben in 23:30, ahead of Matt Green in second 20 seconds behind and third place Stuart Boyd 1:47 seconds off the leader.

After just two races, Tom, Matt and Stuart have already emerged as the lead contenders for the overall title.

As always, the handicap championship is shaping up to a close affair right from the start with five riders separated by just three points after the first two races. On the night Jamie Nation (1st Junior) took the win from Mike Smalley and Cliff Hilless. Overall Mike and Stuart Handley hold the overall lead, with Cliff, Stuart Boyd and Chris Kettle all tied for third just a few points back.

Next week the action moves to Peterborough and Round One of this year’s Hereward League competition with Spalding CC, Peterborough CC and Fenland Clarion.
