Leigh wins battle of the backhands

STAMFORD School returned to winning ways after their defeat the previous week by defeating Stamford Free Church 8-2.

Leigh Ware returned to the fold and secured three wins, including a battle-of-the-backhands encounter with Peter Munch. Peter won twice, but with Richard Henry and Denise Jacobi doing likewise for the school, the Churchmen continue to search for their first victory.

Mid-table teams Bourne A and Braunston A completed a 5-5 fixture, with Chuck Kershaw the only unbeaten player on the night. Mike Willis and Rod Goss each won twice for Bourne, but they needed the doubles point to claim the draw.

There was another tussle between Braunston and Bourne in Division 2. On this occasion the town team beat the villagers 7-3.

This was Braunston’s first defeat of the season with Mike Shattock the star of the evening for Bourne C with three wins, and he was strongly supported by Harry Jackson and Kevin Day with two wins apiece.

Vic Hoffman continues to earn impressive wins, and earned two points for Braunston B.

Uffington CC B earned their second win of the season against bottom club Tallington B. Graham Rawlinson and Mick Wooding enjoyed unbeaten evenings as the cricketers look to work their way up the table.
