NORTH Luffenham pulled off a giant-killing act in beating a strong Stoke Rochford team in the Mail on Sunday national knock-out competition.
Alan Swindley started the match with an impressive half against an opponent who was playing off a handicap of 2. Peter Barker then followed on with an equally impressive 2&1 victory.
New club captain, Dave Wildman, then lost his match 4&3, leaving the tie all square with two to play.
Tom Little and Gordon Knox both had brilliant wins, each of them finishing one up, to leave North Luffenham winners by 3.5 to 1.5.
The next round is against Belton Park and will be played at North Luffenham.
l SOME of the other weekly events have been affected by the weather, including the winter knock-out competitions, but things are now getting back to normal.
In the recently played North Luffenham Waltz, Don Lambert finished on top with an excellent 40 points, followed by Peter Christmas with 36 and Malcolm Hird also on 36 but third on countback.
The North Luffenham Waltz is played in groups of three players, with all scores to count on par 3s, best two scores on par 4s and best score on par 5s.
The winning team, with a score of 85 points, was Don Lambert, Peter Christmas and David Scotchmer. Runners-up, scoring 80 points, was John Nicholls, Alan Barwell and Chris Lee.
