Luffenham Heath Golf Club will host one of the Midlands regional qualifiers for the 2013 Open Championship on Monday.
A field of 90 professional and amateur players will fight for a small number of places in the final qualifying round just before this year’s British Open, which is being played at Muirfield, Scotland, in July.
It’s the first time that the course has been awarded regional qualifying status and men’s captain at Luffenham, Malcolm Bussey, is delighted.
He said: “This is a great honour for our club and indicates the high regard that the Royal and Ancient has for our course.
“It will certainly test the players and the rough is long and heavy if they stray off the fairways. We hope that some of those who do qualify at Luffenham Heath go on to compete in the Open itself”.
Play continues all day and spectators are welcome. Admission is free..
