NORTH Luffenham Golf Club’s winter singles competitions have finally reached a conclusion with the unfortunate seniors captain, Malcolm Hird runner-up in both.
Hird, playing off 17, was beaten by Alan Swindley, playing off 8, in the Seniors knock-out. Swindley won 3&1, completing a magnificent round of gross 76 which included 11 holes played to par.
In the Gents Winter knock-out, Gordon Knox (off 11) was the eventual winner coming out on top 2&1.
Both players carded a nett 32 on the front nine but Knox went on to clinch the match on the 17th.
l LUFFENHAM’S midweek medal for April had to be cancelled due to the very poor weather, but the Sunday medal did go ahead.
Division One winner was Bob Dixon with an excellent nett 69, earning him a one stroke reduction in his handicap to 12. Second was Peter Lambert with nett 69 (off 16), also losing a stroke on his handicap, with Dan Freckingham (off 13) third with a 71.
The winner in Division Two was Gwilym Jones with a brilliant nett 68 that earned him a one stroke cut to 26. David Crooks was second with 70 (playing off 19) and Chris Durrant third with a 70, moving him down a stroke to 20.
l WINNER of the winter Eclectic was the steady Bob Dixon, followed by Alan Swindley then Gordon Knox.
l THE Senior Men’s team played two matches during April with mixed fortunes.
They had an impressive 4½-½ victory against Humberstone Heights but lost 5-1 against Priors Hall, where inconsistent putting was the main problem.
