Baston-based nine-ball professional Mark Gray continued his impressive form with a run to the semi-finals of the latest European tour event in Austria.
It was a bittersweet exit for Gray who went down in the last four to his friend and roommate Richard Jones from Cambridge.
Jones beat Gray 9-7 and went on to win the final. Gray’s consolation was a rise up the European rankings from nine to six.
Gray, who lost in the semi-finals of the World Championships earlier this month, breezed through his qualification matches before pipping Dutch number one Niels Feijens in the last 32.
Top English player Imran Majid was also among Gray’s victims. The local man won the last three framses to triumph 9-7.
Almost 200 players took part in the event in Sankt Johann. Gray won 1,800 Euros for his efforts and is next in action in a minor tournament in Belgium this weekend before the European tour resumes in Germany next month,
