Deepings’ darts legend Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams lost in the semi-finals of the Winmau Masters after a thrilling tussle with fellow Englishman Jamie Hughes on Sunday.
Adams had darts at doubles to win the tie 6-3, but he missed them all and underdog Hughes fought back to take the last three sets for a famous 6-5 victory.
Adams had come from 2-1 down to beat Gary Robson 3-2 in the quarter-final. He had been bidding to win the Masters title for the fourth time, one fewer than record holder Eric Bristow.
Earlier in the tournament Adams had beaten Nick Kenny (3-2) and Cambs County colleague Dennis Harbour (3-1). City man Harbour won the first set, but Adams threw five maximum 180s on his way to victory in a high-class clash.
Harbour also failed in his bid to qualify for the BDO World Championships at Lakeside next January. Harbour was eliminated at the final qualifying stage in Hull last Wednesday (October 8)
